|| 2010 ITA CORK OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPSMulhuddart Sport Taekwon-Do Club sent a small team to compete in the 2010 ITA Cork Open Championships on Sunday 21st February. The event was very well run by Mr. Mark Buckley Tournament Director and Mr. Stephen Ryan Chief Umpire. The Mulhuddart team was Joseph McGrath, Karl Burnett, Rebecca Keane, Luke Burnett, Michael Boylan and Holly Burnett. The team was accompanied by Ms. Kim Burnett (Coach) and Mr. Donal O'Donoghue (Umpire). All competitors were pre-registered which meant that the competition started promptly at 10.00am. The level at the competition was high with members of the ITF Ireland Junior National Taekwon-Do team participating.
The results from Mulhuddart were very good. First off I want to recognise Karl Burnett's performance in the -145cm Blue/Black Belt category. Karl who is a -135cm red tag, fought courageously against a much larger junior black belt competitor. It was a tough day at the office for Karl, but everyone was proud of his fighting spirit. Joseph McGrath also put in good performances in pattern and sparring, but finished just outside the medals on this occasion. Holly Burnett fought well and took the bronze medal in her sparring category. Luke Burnett was in top form and battled through four fights to win his sparring division earning himself another ITF Taekwon-Do sparring title for his collection. Rebecca Keane was also unstoppable recording another sparring gold medal for the team. Competitor of the day was Michael Boylan who took silver in the cadet yellow/green pattern category and then went on to take gold in the -55kg sparring. || OTHER NEWS
